Hey Kids...Register online and join in the fun with weekly market inspired adventures! Learn, explore, grow!

About the Program
Visiting a farmer’s market encourages a healthy lifestyle. Kids are surrounded by fruits and veggies, sold by local growers, who will often use more environmentally friendly methods of farming. Many children don’t really know where all of that food in the grocery store comes from. Seeing the food in a farmer’s market and talking to the farmers who grow it will help kids make connections between the food they eat and where it comes from.
Children are curious, they like to learn by doing, and love to play in the dirt. So part of this club activities will encourage growing their own gardens. After all, half the fun of farming for farmers, we get to eat what we grow! So why not let the children experience working in a garden, a child can experience the satisfaction that comes from caring for something over time, while observing the cycle of life firsthand.
When parents get involved in gardening with their kids, the results are even better! So make it a family weekly outing to visit the market and work on a family garden.
Each week there will be a mission for the children to complete. Sometimes it will be at the market, sometime in the garden, sometimes a craft to do at home or a mission to do at home. Complete the mission submit it and get points. The kids will have fun while learning about farming food and healthy eating. Do it as a family and most importantly have fun. Sign up date and get started.
The kids can see each week their ranking and at the end of the season the winner will be announced and a prize will be given.

Exploring the farmers’ market with the kids
Exploring the farmers’ market is an outdoor activity your whole family is sure to enjoy. Exploring the farmers’ markets with kids can be a great way for fun and learning! Here are just a few way to learn and have fun and it's an awesome way to sneak lessons in when they are not expecting it.
What is local food?
Ask a farmers where their farms are located, you can share with them the importance of eating locally-grown foods to financially support the family farm and local community, as well as to reduce environmental impact by purchasing foods that require less gas mileage to get from farm to table. They can learn first hand how organic and conventional farming differ.
What is in season?
As kids visit the farmer’s market on a regular basis, they will see the availability of certain foods at certain times of year, unlike the grocery store. You can get them to ask the farmers questions about why foods grow better at certain times of year.
How to identify different fruits and vegetables
If they don’t know what to call it, how likely is it they will eat it? The simple act of learning the names of all the fruits and vegetables can be very powerful.
What goes into preparing a meal?
A great way to make a trip to the farmers market a learning experience is by making it a family affair. Take walk through the farmers market and then select ingredients for preparing a meal together. Kids can learn how to follow a recipe, how to measure and prepare the ingredients, gain confidence in their own cooking skills, then enjoy the farm to table food experience together as a family.
Gardening with the children
Gardening is a fun, engaging activity that helps families make a connection to the natural world around them. Working in a garden stimulates all five senses and helps children learn new skills, develop self-confidence, socialize and become nurturers. When kids garden, they realize how important it is to take care of the Earth if they want their garden to grow and produce healthy plants. By having them grow vegetables and fruits, they will have a sense of pride in eating what they have created. Kids will soon learn to love eating what they have grown.
